By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, November 18: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday in Mumbai said that “billionaires want Mumbai’s land”. He also claimed that “there is a plan to give about ₹1 lakh crore to a billionaire”.

“The Congress party thinks that the farmers, poor and unemployed of Maharashtra should be helped. Inflation and unemployment are the main issues for the state,” Gandhi said while addressing a press conference in Mumbai on the last day of the campaigning for the Assembly elections in the state.

The Congress leader said that the “land of Dharavi belongs to the people living there”. “They have been living there for years,” added Gandhi.

The Congress leader stated that “there are many problems in converting Dharavi. Mangrove land is being snatched away. All rules have been changed for one person”.

“The country’s ports, airports, defense industry, Dharavi, everything is being handed over to one person…,” alleged Gandhi.

Gandhi asked, “Will the money of Maharashtra go to the people here or to one person – this is the biggest issue of the election.”

Gandhi asserted that “the development of Dharavi will be done keeping in mind the interests of the people living there”. “Today, the interests of the people of Dharavi are being ignored. It is not just about Dharavi here. Apart from this, the issue of mangrove land and floods is also big,” added Gandhi.

The Congress leader stated that his party “wants that the people of Dharavi and the people of Maharashtra should benefit”. “Whatever happens will be done after consulting the people of Dharavi and with their cooperation. Tt will not be done by breaking rules for just one person,” added Gandhi.

The Congress leader reiterated that the party-led government in the state will ensure monthly transfer of ₹3000 to women while they will also get free bus facility. The Congress has promised farmers’ loan up to ₹3 lakh rupees will be waived.

Gandhi also reiterated the Congress promise for Soybean minimum support price of ₹7,000 per quintal. “There will be a fair price committee for onion farmers. There will be a fair MSP for cotton. There will be a caste census in Maharashtra,” added Gandhi.

The Congress has also promised health insurance up to ₹25 lakh rupees in Maharashtra. Gandhi reiterated the Congress promise of unemployed to be given help of ₹4000 rupees every month. He also stated that two and a half lakh government jobs will be created.
