Congress leader accuses Election Commission of inaction, says internal probe into Maharashtra voter rolls reveals explosive evidence

By TRH Political Desk

August 1, 2025 — In a dramatic statement made outside Parliament today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that his party has uncovered a massive voter fraud operation in Maharashtra, likening the findings to an “electoral atom bomb” capable of undermining the very foundation of Indian democracy.

“There’s no question — we had suspicions in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections. In Maharashtra, things went even further. We felt there was theft—real voter fraud. Around 1 crore fake voters were added,” Gandhi said while addressing reporters.

The Congress MP claimed that the Election Commission failed to act, forcing the party to launch its own six-month internal investigation. “We had to go deeper, get more granular. What we’ve found is explosive. If this explodes, you won’t even be able to see the Election Commission,” he declared.

Congress Alleges Deep Electoral Manipulation

According to Rahul Gandhi, the evidence gathered in Maharashtra points to systematic tampering of voter rolls, allegedly to tilt the electoral balance in favour of the ruling BJP. While specifics have yet to be made public, party sources suggest the operation involves large-scale duplication, illegal additions, and manipulation of demographic data.

Congress had earlier raised alarms over a similar voter data manipulation scam in Karnataka, where a private firm allegedly linked to the ruling BJP was found to have unauthorized access to voter information and electoral rolls. That controversy resulted in criminal cases and mass public outcry, with several employees of the implicated firm facing investigation.

Bihar SIR Row Adds Fuel to Fire

Rahul Gandhi’s comments come amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy in Bihar, where the Election Commission has been accused of targeting voters selectively under the guise of electoral roll verification. The Congress and allied opposition parties have alleged that the SIR process disproportionately affects marginalized and minority communities, with millions of names at risk of being deleted without due process.

Earlier this week, Congress leader Krishna Allavaru slammed the Election Commission for running a “tyrannical process” in Bihar, alleging that the numbers being presented were “completely wrong” and that EC officials were bypassing established legal procedures.

Election Commission Under Scrutiny

The repeated allegations from the Congress and INDIA bloc have placed the Election Commission of India (ECI) under intense scrutiny, with opposition leaders questioning its impartiality ahead of the 2025 general elections. Rahul Gandhi’s characterization of the ECI’s inaction as enabling electoral fraud will likely trigger fresh political turbulence.

“We are not going to sit quietly. This is about democracy. If the vote itself is stolen, what remains?” Gandhi concluded, suggesting that his party may soon release findings from their Maharashtra probe.
