New Delhi, February 9: Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with Tucker Carlson sought to set the agenda for the US Presidential election by underlining that Washington is undermining the American interests. Putin repeatedly stressed that China has already overtaken the US economy in the purchasing power capacity terms while slamming the policy of Washington of restrictions as a “political tool”.

In a two-hour long interview, which is being watched globally as a top event, Putin sought to put the blame on the doorsteps of the US for the raging war in Ukraine. The Russian President insisted on several occasions during the interview that Russia was put under pressure by “dragging Ukraine into NATO”.

Putin argued for a “change of approach by looking into the future” by citing the cases of the rising economic clouts of China and Indonesia. Putin noted that the US economy is doing well, growing at the rate of 2.5 per cent annually with a decent inflation number. But Putin argued that case of the growing dilution of the economic clout of the US in the world.

Putin said: “Russia’s trade was in dollar until 2022 for over 50 per cent, which is now 13 per cent. Russian trade in Yuan was three per cent before 2022, which now is over 34 per cent. Russia is now the biggest economy in Europe despite the restrictions by the US.”

The Russian President slammed that use of dollar as a political tool by the US. “There is now a realization that the US uses dollar as a political tool to fix global issues,” said Putin, adding that there is a rising trend for de-dollarisation. He said that the US keeps printing dollars and the currency gets circulated globally. But, Putin added, there is now a change, and the “people in the US should be worried about.

Putin also cited that the economy of BRICS is now much bigger than G7 unlike a few years ago. “You cannot stop Sun from rising,” said Putin, seeking to argue that the American way of restrictions by freezing assets is not working.

Putin also said that Russia-China bilateral trade is now over $200 billion. He praised the Chinese leadership, saying that China has shown a policy of compromise in resolving the problems with neighbouring countries.
