The Congress leaders accused the BJP of attacking the rights of tribal people. Addressing a public meeting at Sulthan Bathery, Vadra started her speech with a few lines in Malayalam language. “Her speech in Malayalam came much to the delight and cheer of the people in the area,” said the Congress in a media statement.
Vadra told the people in Sulthan Bathery that she was gradually trying to learn the language. “The people cheered her with a big round of applause,” added the Congress in the media statement.
Speaking about the practices of tribal people, Vadra said that she remembered her grandmother, Indira Gandhi, “who used to say that one could learn how to balance the environment with livelihood from the tribal people”.
“It was on the basis of this understanding that Indira Gandhi had done a lot for safeguarding the rights of the tribal people,” added Vadra. She also stated that the UPA government at the centre, brought the Forest Rights Act and MGNREGA to help the poorest of the poor to have opportunities for employment and the Right to Education.

“Today, the BJP was attacking these very rights, across India, it is snatching the land of the tribal people and handing it over to big businessmen friends,” added Vadra in her speech.
She also stated that “the Forest Right Act was being diluted”. “You have to fight to retain your basic rights today, and in this fight, my brother has stood side-by-side with you and I stand side-by-side with you,” she assured the tribal people.
Accusing the BJP of practicing divisive politics, she said: “The politics of the BJP is based on division, it is based on negativity, and all its policies are created only to benefit a few big business people. Under his policies farmers are suffering across India.”
