Govt Working on Action Plan Against Man-Animal Conflict

New Delhi, December 16: The Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday sought government response to the issue of man-animal conflict in her Wayanad parliamentary constituency. Vadra said that 90 people have been affected in Wayanad in one year due to the man-animal conflict.
“In the last one year, as many as 90 people have been affected by the man-animal conflict. This has been a perennial issue,” said Vadra. She sought the government response while asking a supplementary question during the Question Hour.
Union Minister for Environment and Forest Bhupender Yadav informed the Congress MP that he had visited the Wayanad parliamentary constituency. “The region is a tri-junction of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The man-animal conflict has been an issue faced by the region,” said Yadav.
The minister said that the government is implementing an action plan to deal with the issue of man-animal conflict. “We will provide the detail action plan and progress so far to the concerned MP in writing,” Yadav said in the Lok Sabha.
Reports said that as many as 910 people have died in Kerala alone since 2016 due to the man-animal conflict. Deaths of the people due to man-animal conflicts have also led to protests by the people in Kerala.
Vadra during election campaigns for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls had promised that she would raise the issue of the man-animal conflict in parliament. Vadra had also promised the people that she would raise the issue of the alleged non-payment of compensation to the victims of Wayanad landslides.
Yadav assured that the government is seized of the issue. “I have personally visited the region, including Wayanad. The government is working to address the issue,” added Yadav.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had also assured the people of Wayanad to find solutions for the man-animal conflict. He had also accused the state and the Central governments of inaction to deal with the challenges.
Experts argued that wild elephants are trespassing into human settlements near forests also on account of climate change. Wild elephants per experts are crossing territories in search of water.
Man-animal conflict has been gaining attention following more people getting killed year after year. The people in Odisha are also affected by the issue of the man-animal conflict.
