New Delhi, June 27: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that the government will present an impressive Budget document. She said that the Budget will lay down a futuristic roadmap for the country.

Murmu addressed the joint session of parliament on Thursday. She gave an account of the achievements of the Central government.

“In the upcoming session, the government will introduce its first budget in its term,” said Murmu. She added, “this budget will be an impressive document of the far-reaching policies and futuristic vision of the government”.

Murmu asserted that the budget will unveil “major economic and social decisions”. She added that “many historical steps will also be seen”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asserted ahead of the Lok Sabha elections that his government will take up “bold reforms”. He had also said that his government will take big decisions.

Murmu also emphasised on the government bid for self-reliance in the defence sector. She stressed that the defence procurements are ensuing up to 70 per cent participation of the indigenous suppliers.

Murmu also asserted that there has been healthy growth in the startups in the country. She also mentioned “record” GST collections to highlight the achievements of the government.

Murmu also stressed that a large section of the people have come out of the poverty line. She asserted that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna had been instrumental in lifting the poor for the poverty trap.

She added that the food scheme ensures that the people do not relapse into poverty again. Murmu also mentioned the government building toilets for the poor for their empowerment.

The budget is building anticipation among the economists. Modi had tasked the ministers to prepare 100-day action plan of the government even before the Lok Sabha elections.

The officials suggest that several of the ideas mentioned in the 100-day action plan could find space in the Budget. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been holding consultations with stakeholders ahead of the unveiling of the Budget.
