Prez Kovind flags political rancour

New Delhi, June 6: In a democracy, there can be differences of ideology between the ruling party and the Opposition, but there shouldn’t be any animosity between the two sides, said President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday while addressing the joint session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.
President Kovind underlined that “sometimes there have been undignified incidents which are contrary to this rich tradition. You have to make an effort to forget them by considering those as an exception”.
Such words from President Kovind have come when he’s set to complete his term in the office next month. Also, his tenure has seen the highly divisive political space at the national and the state levels.
At the national level, contrary to the expectations of President Kovind the political space is full of animosity and vitriol.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the main Opposition party the Congress have seen their relations marred with rancor.
Both the Houses of Parliament for the recent few sessions have seen treasury and the Opposition benches sparring mostly. The consequence of rancorous national polity has been in the form of the legislations passed by the two Houses of Parliament without adequate discussions and debates, resulting in too frequent amendments in them after flaws are brought to light.
