New Delhi, August 15, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 79th Independence Day address, declared Atmanirbhar Bharat as the bedrock of India’s journey to becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Speaking from the Red Fort, he outlined a sweeping vision of strategic autonomy across defence, technology, energy, space, and manufacturing — all designed to strengthen national dignity, security, and self-reliance.

Defence Self-Reliance: Operation Sindoor and Indigenous Technology
PM Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as proof that India’s defence forces, equipped with Made-in-India weapons, can act decisively without foreign dependence. He challenged innovators and youth to develop indigenous jet engines, ensuring future defence technology is entirely home-grown.

Semiconductors, AI, and High-Tech Leadership
India’s first Made in India semiconductor chip will launch by the end of 2025. PM Modi underscored the need for leadership in AI, cyber security, deep-tech, and operating systems to secure global competitiveness.

Space Sector Independence
Celebrating Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s achievements, PM Modi announced plans for India’s own space station and praised over 300 startups working in satellites and deep-space technologies, positioning India as a global space leader.

Clean Energy and Nuclear Expansion
PM Modi announced that India has achieved its 2030 goal of 50% clean energy five years early, thanks to advances in solar, hydrogen, hydro, and nuclear power. He revealed that 10 new nuclear reactors are operational and set a target to increase nuclear capacity tenfold by 2047, with private sector participation.

Strategic Resource Security
The National Critical Minerals Mission will explore 1,200 sites to secure essential resources for energy, defence, and industry, while the National Deepwater Exploration Mission will tap ocean resources to cut fuel import dependence.

Agricultural Self-Reliance
To safeguard food security, PM Modi called for domestic fertiliser production, reducing imports, and empowering farmers to strengthen India’s agricultural sovereignty.

Digital Sovereignty and Innovation
PM Modi urged youth to develop indigenous social media platforms and secure data ecosystems, reinforcing India’s digital independence. He also called for pharmaceutical self-reliance, drawing on India’s COVID-19 success in vaccines and platforms like CoWIN, and urged researchers to secure patents for new medicines and treatments.

Swadeshi and Mission Sudarshan Chakra
Reaffirming the “Vocal for Local” call, PM Modi encouraged visible promotion of India-made goods, asking shopkeepers to display Swadeshi boards. He also announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, inspired by the legendary weapon of Shri Krishna, to neutralise enemy infiltrations and enhance India’s offensive defence capabilities.

PM Modi’s speech presented Atmanirbhar Bharat not just as an economic strategy but as a national ethos — a foundation for a confident, secure, and globally respected India.
