New Delhi, August 15, 2025 — On the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a reform-focused address from the Red Fort, declaring that the next phase of India’s journey will be marked by greater strength, self-reliance, and citizen empowerment. He outlined sweeping measures to simplify laws, boost entrepreneurship, and make governance more transparent and people-centric.
Historic Wave of Reforms
PM Modi announced that over 40,000 unnecessary compliances have been abolished and more than 1,500 outdated laws repealed. In the latest Parliament session alone, 280 legal provisions were scrapped to make governance simpler and more accessible. “Reform is not just about economics — it is about transforming the everyday lives of citizens,” he said.
Key achievements include:
-
Income Tax Relief: Zero tax for annual income up to ₹12 lakh.
-
Transparent Taxation: Faceless assessment to ensure fairness and efficiency.
-
Justice Reform: Outdated criminal laws replaced with the Indian Justice Code for faster, simpler legal processes.
Boost for Entrepreneurs and MSMEs
The Prime Minister stressed that reducing compliance costs for startups, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs is central to fostering innovation and self-reliance. The government’s approach aims to free businesses from outdated legal provisions and arbitrary enforcement.
Task Force for Next-Generation Reforms
A new Task Force will review all laws and procedures linked to economic activity, working within a strict timeline to cut red tape, reduce compliance burdens, and make India more business-friendly.
Next-Generation GST Reforms by Diwali
PM Modi announced GST reforms to be unveiled this Diwali, aimed at reducing taxes on essential daily-use goods. “It will be a Diwali gift for you,” he promised, saying the move will directly benefit households and stimulate the economy.
Vision for a Viksit Bharat
Calling for a focus on expanding India’s own progress rather than comparing with others, PM Modi said these reforms are designed to make India more resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive. “Governance must work for the people, not the other way around,” he concluded.
