New Delhi, October 2, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned a detailed essay on the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), published on the Namo App, describing the Sangh as “a sacred manifestation of India’s eternal national consciousness” that has guided generations through service, discipline, and nation-building.

Marking 100 years since the RSS was founded by Dr. K.B. Hedgewar on Vijayadashami in 1925, Modi wrote: “This is the good fortune of our generation of swayamsevaks, that we are witness to such a historic moment. I offer my respects at the feet of Doctor Hedgewar ji and extend best wishes to crores of volunteers dedicated to national service.”

The Prime Minister compared the RSS to a mighty river that nourishes civilizations, saying the organization has touched every sphere of Indian life—education, agriculture, social welfare, women’s empowerment, and tribal development. He noted that the Sangh’s methodology of daily shakhas has been its “soul,” transforming individuals and, through them, the nation.

Recalling the organization’s role during the freedom struggle, Modi wrote that Hedgewar himself went to jail several times and RSS volunteers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with freedom fighters. After independence, he said, the Sangh remained steadfast in service, whether during Partition refugee crises or natural calamities.

The essay also emphasized the Sangh’s work against caste discrimination and untouchability, quoting leaders like Balasaheb Deoras who declared that “if untouchability is not a sin, then nothing is.” Modi praised the vision of current Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, who advocates “one well, one temple, one crematorium” for all.

Outlining the RSS roadmap for the future, Modi highlighted its “Panch Parivartan” (five transformations): self-awareness, social harmony, family values, civic discipline, and environmental protection. He linked these to contemporary challenges such as demographic shifts, economic independence, and cultural preservation.

Concluding, Modi said the Sangh is beginning its second century with renewed resolve: “By 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence, every contribution of the RSS will energize and inspire the nation.”

The centenary celebrations also saw the Government of India release a commemorative postal stamp and coin in honour of the RSS’s hundred-year journey.
