New Delhi, August 7: Vinesh Phogat is India’s true icon. For her, there is no foe mightier than her courage, and the legend of Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki crumbled under the forceful grip of Phogat in the Paris Olympics yesterday.
“It’s like Sumit Nagal beating Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon,” Rohit Mahajan reported from Paris for The Tribune.
The rage and fury of Phogat trounced her rivals in split seconds. She has done what no other Indian woman has ever done.
Phogat will go for the gold today. If her rage pins down Sarah Hildebrandt of the US to the mat on Wednesday, India will count her first gold medal in the Paris Olympics.

After Susaki spread her arms and legs in defeat, Phogat ran to another corner of the mat. She cried her heart out.
Departing the ring, she didn’t see a jostling group of reporters, including from Japan. The reporters sought her comment on scripting one of the greatest upsets in the sporting history.
Phogat was not distracted. Her next prey in the semis was an uneventful challenger.
The lioness of Haryana has made the Paris Olympics her stage to give a befitting reply to thugs who made her cry at the Jantar Mantar Road last year. She and her Olympian peers were accused to have been staging drama at the Jantar Mantar Road at the behest of a political party in Haryana.

Olympian Neeraj Chopra will also aim at the gold medal today in the Paris Olympics. Both Chopra and Phogat owe their successes to sporting infrastructure of Haryana.
India had a disastrous run in the 2016 Rio Olympics. That wasn’t unusual, for India at Olympics only counted on extraordinary feats of individuals.
The Niti Aayog drafted a plan paper – ‘Let’s Play – after the disastrous run of the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Niti Aayog set a target for the Indian sportspersons to go big in the Olympics.
The principal think tank of the Government of India charted a nine-year plan to bring the medal drought-stricken country to the top league in the Olympics. The Niti Aayog set a target to win 50 medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

By the time the curtain comes down the Paris Olympics, the Niti Aayog may have to stare at another verdict that the think tank panel is an abode of copy-paste policy planners. While the Niti Aayog’s 50 medal in the Paris Olympics in 2024 has turned out to be a ‘Mungeri Lal ke Haseen Sapney’, India be celebrating the feats of Haryana-based Olympians.
Before the Opposition reads a larger script to go after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his habit of trusting questionable policy heads, Phogat has indubitably reiterated the long-held view that the politicians should be kicked out of the sporting federations lock-stock and barrel.
India currently ranks 63rd in the Paris Olympics. Indian heroes have so far won three medals, and their feats have been attributed to individual glories.
