New Delhi, April 23, 2025: A day after the Pahalgam terror attack, Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh said that the punitive action will unfold soon. Singh said that the action will not just target terrorists involved in Pahalgam attack but also their sponsors.
Speaking at the ‘Arjan Singh Memorial Lecture’ in New Delhi, Singh read out from a written slip to speak on the action plan of the government against perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack. Singh is the first minister from within the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre to speak of response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
“India is such an old civilization and such a big country that it cannot be intimidated by any such terrorist activities. The people responsible for such acts will get a strong response in the near future,” Singh said while making a mention of the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Singh stated that “I would like to reiterate India’s firm resolve that we have a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. Every citizen of India is united against this cowardly act.”
“From this platform, I assure the countrymen that in view of the incident, the Government of India will take every step that is necessary and appropriate,” asserted Singh. The Defence Minister made the remarks within hours of the Prime Minister holding a key meeting at the airport upon his arrival from Saudi Arabia. Modi cut short his visit to Riyadh after the Pahalgam terror attack.
“And we will not only reach out to those who have perpetrated this incident. We will also reach out to those who, sitting behind the scenes, have conspired to commit such nefarious acts on the soil of India,” Singh said.
The remarks of Singh are open for interpretation as he didn’t take name of the sponsors of the terror attack in Pahalgam. But security analysts have linked the terror attack in Pahalgam to a fiery speech made by the Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir on April 17 in Islamabad in which he invoked “Jammu and Kashmir is our jugular vein”.
Also, security analysts have compared the Pahalgam terror attack with the Chhitisingpura killing of Sikhs 25 years ago. Bill Clinton, then US President, was visiting India. Pahalgam terror attack took place on the second day of the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to India.
“Yesterday, in Pahalgam, our country lost many innocent citizens in a cowardly attack by terrorists targeting religion. This extremely inhuman act has plunged all of us into deep grief and pain,” Singh added.
