Amit Shah Arrives in Srinagar for Security Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack

New Delhi, April 22, 2025: In most savage attacks in decades on civilians, terrorists killed at least 27 Hindu tourists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday by singling them out for their religion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to serve strictest punishment to perpetrators of the savage attacks on civilians.

Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar to oversee security response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The Prime Minister spoke to Shah to take stock of the situation.

The savage terror attack took place on the second day of the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to India, last such savage terror attack had taken place in the Chhitisingpura village in the Kashmir valley while then US President Bill Clinton had been on an official visit of India. Terrorists had gunned down 35 Sikh villagers.

“A serious terrorist attack occurred in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Gunmen opened fire on a group of Indian Hindu and foreign tourists at the Baisaran meadow, approximately 5 kilometers from Pahalgam,” strategic affairs analyst Velina Tchakarova stated in a post on X.

She stated that “the attack resulted in at least 27 fatalities and over a dozen injuries, making it one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in the region in recent years. The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is suspected to be behind the attack.” “TRF has been designated a terrorist organization by the Indian government since 2023,” she added.

Tchakarova also stated that “this tragic event cast a shadow over the region, especially as it comes during a period of increased tourism following years of unrest”.

“Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people,” said Vance in a post on X.

The Prime Minister, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, vowed strict punishment to the terrorists. “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared. Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” Modi said in a post on X.

Nitin A Gokhale, a strategic affairs analyst, in a post on X recalled the Chhitisingpura killing of Sikhs 25 years ago. “…this time in tourist hub Pahalgam in J&K. That time 35 Sikh villagers were massacred on eve of President Bill Clinton’s India visit. Exact death toll in Pahalgam is yet to be confirmed but at least 26 feared killed at a time when US VP JD Vance is already in India,” wrote Gokhale in his post.

He stated that the “carnage was targeted at Hindu tourists, all reports indicate. Major challenge to the Indian state by TRF, LeT’s proxy which is Pakistan Army’s pit bull.”

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) called for strict response to the Pahalgam terror attack. “This attack is an audacity to attack the unity and integrity of the country. The government should take appropriate steps soon to punish those responsible for this attack,” said Dattatreya Hosabale, general secretary of the RSS.
