Pahalgam Terror Attack: 3 Critical Mistakes by Pakistan’s General Asim Munir That Fuelled the Crisis

By Manish Anand

New Delhi, April 25, 2025: The world has almost believed with nodding familiarity that the Pahalgam terror attack was a hit job ordered by Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir. Also, a lack of alarm in the western world over India and Pakistan setting on a tit-for-tat may signal deepening Pakistani irrelevance in global geopolitics.

Pakistani Army bashing journalists in Islamabad with spine to speak the truth reckon that Munir is the weakest General to lead the armed forces. Rawalpindi-basher Adil Raja calls Munir the weakest general to lead the Pakistani Army.

The UK-based journalist is well-known for his anti-Munir views, while he also claimed in a post on X that Pahalgam terror attack was ordered by the Pakistani Army. But Raja has more companions to pin down Munir for tactical blunders.

Punching Trump on his Nose

US President Donald Trump in his first term dealt with the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. On his second term, he is watching post-Pahalgam attack diplomatic tremors.

Munir “ordered” the Pahalgam terror attack to coincide with the second day of US Vice President James David Vance. Munir may have sought to replicate his idol general Pervez Musharaff, who had ordered the Chittisinghpura massacre of Sikhs in the Kashmir valley in 2000, when Bill Clinton, then US President, was in New Delhi.

In last 25 years, much waters have flown in the Indus River. Pakistan fails even to register its existence in Trump worldview.

Trump is raging with resolve to dismantle the international drug trafficking which has Rawalpindi footprints as a conduit for the Afghanistan sourced drugs routed through Mexico. Trump is also stomping to crush the intercontinental nuclear ballistic programme of Pakistan, which has US eyes since the days of Barack Obama Presidency.

Munir Misreads Saudi Arabia

Munir further may have erred by “ordering” the Pahalgam terror attack while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting Saudi Arabia. Munir is slammed within Pakistan for worsening Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Modi cancelled the dinner in Saudi Arabia to return to New Delhi. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are transforming their economies and also embracing social changes to stay on the side of the western world. Bikini-clad models walk ramps in Saudi Arabia now.

India’s trained manpower are transforming the economic landscape of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Trump’s Abraham Accords links Saudi Arabia and the UAE with Israel. India also links up with I2U2. India further gains centre stage with IMEC Corridor.

Munir, thus, proves to be a poor student of changing global economy and geopolitics. If Pakistan goes broke, Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, may not fly with begging bowls to Riyadh.

Munir Muddies Existential Crises

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Iran came out with a resounding condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. Tehran unequivocally condemned the act of terror. Pakistan appears to have no allies to shed tears in near vicinity.

Taliban-ruled Afghanistan is making violent attempt to redraw the Durand Line. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is blasting its ways not just in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but even in the Punjab province.

Balochistan Liberation Army is gung-ho with attacks to send shivers down the spine of China to force Beijing a rethink if stakes in the Gwadar Port are worth the cash burn and loss of men in Pakistan.

Munir also forgot that Pakistan is on an economic ventilator with the International Monetary Fund bailout package only recently unveiled. Two successive crop failures in Pakistan on the lines of 2011 may send Punjab Muslim youth baying for blood of Munir.

Jailed Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, may begin planning his “revolution” to rid his nation of the rule of Rawalpindi.
