NEET UG paper leaks uproar forces adjournment in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, June 28: The Lok Sabha plunged into pandemonium within minutes of assembling on Friday to force an adjournment of the House after an uproar over the NEET UG paper leaks.

The Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar disallowed the Opposition bid to move a motion for discussion on NEET UG paper leaks.

The first day after the address of President Droupadi Murmu witnessed Opposition raising the issue of the NEET UG paper leaks. The presiding officers of both the houses of parliament refused to allow urgent discussion on the issue of NEET UG paper leaks.

“Both the sides, the Opposition and the treasury benches, should give a joint message to the student community of India. We should discuss the issue of the NEET UG paper leaks,” said the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, told the Congress leader that he would get ample time to raise the issue when he takes part in the discussion on motion of thanks to the address of the President to the joint session of parliament.

Still, Gandhi persisted to raise the issue of the NEET UG paper leaks urgently. “This issue concerns the student community. We have to send the message that we are with them,” added Gandhi.

The mic of Gandhi was repeatedly switched off. He could not be heard subsequently. Gandhi continued raising the issue while his mic was switched off.

Birla, sensing a determined Opposition not yielding to his pleas, adjourned the proceedings of the Lok Sabha till 12 noon. The Lok Sabha is slated to initiate discussion on motion of thanks to President for her address to the joint session of parliament.

Gandhi had held a round table discussion with protesting students who are demanding retest of NEET UG examination. Gandhi had promised the students that he would support the students on the street as well as in parliament.

The student wing of the Congress, NSUI, had yesterday barged into the office of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to intensify protest against the NEET UG paper leaks.

Murmu in her address to the joint session of parliament had asserted the resolve of the government to bring transparency in the conduct of examinations, including the NEET.
