Leaders of Opposition parties on the conclusion of meeting in Mumbai

New Delhi, September 1: Riding on the theme of ‘Judega Bharat, Jeetega INDIA’, the Opposition alliance INDIA alliance on Friday announced that the constituents will soon work out seat adjustment pacts. The alliance will soon begin holding rallies across the country.

Addressing the media in Mumbai after two-day long conclave, the leaders of the constituents of INDIA alliance said that the seat adjustment pact will be arrived as far as possible among the constituents. Expressing urgency to hit the ground running, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee pressed for wrapping up the negotiations at the earliest to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata party (BJP).

Speaking to the media, the Shiva Sena leader Aditya Thackeray said that the constituents have agreed to adopt three resolutions. “Resolution of INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) parties to jointly contest the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha. We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. Seat-sharing arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take,” stated the resolution.

Additionally, the Opposition block decided to organize public rallies at the earliest in different parts of the country on issues of public concern and importance. “We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to coordinate our respective communications and media strategies and campaigns with the theme Judega Bharat, Jeetega India in different languages,” added the resolution.

The Mumbai conclave of the Opposition parties also decided on a 13-member coordination committee which will consist of members of several parties. K. C. Vengupal of the Congress, Sharad Pawar of the NCP, T R Balu of the DMK will be among the members of the committee.

“Two very big steps were taken (in the meeting). A coordination committee and committees under this coordination committee. We will expedite all seat-sharing discussions and decisions and make them happen as soon as possible. This stage represents 60 per cent of the Indian population. If the parties on this stage unite, it will be impossible for the BJP to win elections,” said Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief, while speaking at the conclusion of the Opposition meeting.
