Opposition Front

The Hindu has said in its Editorial that non-BJP parties are often at loggerheads and coordination among them may not be easy. The daily stated that meetings of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the national capital were exploratory and not decisive.

The Chennai-based daily underlined that the mutual animosity among the Opposition parties is driving the thought that they could become easy prey to the BJP. It argued that any Opposition front will have to cede diverse opinions and interests.

Nitish Kumar is among several Opposition heads who have been showing desperations to stay relevant, while also facing existential threats. Besides, the Opposition is also without a narrative that appeals the aspirational people and the next generation.

Bhatinda Riddle

The Asian Age has called the killings of four jawans in Bhatinda and death by suicide by another mysterious. The daily has called for transparent enquiry into the incident, while not ruling out the terror angle.

The daily has also argued that the Punjab Police have been laggard in nabbing even Amritpal Singh, and its role in the probe in the Bhatinda incident may not enthuse confidence. It also stated that the Army probe has mostly been opaque, but the people need to know why measures were not initiated when rifle and ammunitions went missing.

The incidents of fratricidal killings in the army camp and elsewhere in the armed units are not uncommon. The mass of incidents of fratricidal killings indeed call for a scrutiny of the standard operating procedures in the army camps.

Heat Days

The Economic Times has warned in its Editorial that most parts of the country will witness above normal heat days during April-June. The daily has said that the heat episodes may be irreversible, and efforts to improve resilience need attention.

Smart building constructions, early warning systems, boosting medical infrastructure are some of the ways to mitigate the hardships caused by heat days, said the business daily, adding that India can suffer 2.5 to 4.5 per cent GDP loss on account of the extreme heat as stated by the World Bank in a study.

India along with several other countries are facing the extreme weather conditions, and we all are guilty of having bene in denial of climate change threats. Within the sight of Parliament of India, there are landfill sites, which emit greenhouse and toxic gases throughout the year, but the administrations remain blind to the hardship of the people. We indeed deserve punishment for being exceedingly callous.
