NEW DELHI, July 28, 2025 — The Opposition took aims at Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The Opposition asked Shah to take responsibility for intelligence failure that led to the Pahalgam terror attack.

“Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha admitted to the intelligence failure and took responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack. But the onus lies with the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Gaurav Gogoi, deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.

Why is Shah hiding behind Sinha, asked Gogoi. He asked the Home Minister to take the responsibility for the security lapses. The Congress leader also asked, why did the first ambulance take one hour to reach the Pahalgam terror site.

“The blame was passed on tourist operators that they were taking tourists to the meadow in Pahalgam without the knowledge of the government. How is it justifiable? What was the government and the intelligence agencies doing,” said Gogoi in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress leader also sought accountability from the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. Gogoi said that Doval needs to explain the intelligence lapses that led to the Pahalgam terror attack.

During the debate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not present in the Lok Sabha. Shah was present in the House when Gogoi spoke, targeting him for the alleged lapses of intelligence that led to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in an address during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, hailed the military action as a historic, coordinated, and strategic strike that reasserted India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

He paid tribute to the armed forces and reiterated that the operation was not an act of war, but a calibrated response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. “First and foremost, through this House, I salute our brave soldiers who stand ever-ready to protect the nation’s borders. I also pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives to uphold India’s unity and integrity,” Singh began.

He detailed that on May 6 and 7, 2025, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, a joint tri-services action aimed at dismantling terror camps operating across the border.

“It was not just a military action; it was a statement of India’s sovereignty, responsibility toward its citizens, and a message to the enemies of peace,” Singh said.

The Defence Minister emphasized that multiple strategic options were considered, but the one chosen ensured maximum damage to terrorist infrastructure while avoiding harm to Pakistani civilians.
