India Must Make ‘Operation Sindoor’ New Normal to Shut Down Terror Factory in Pakistan

By MANISH ANAND

NEW DELHI, May 7, 2025 – Operation Sindoor has unshackled India from decades of self-imposed restraint. The audacious pre-dawn strikes on nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday targeted key infrastructure linked to major terrorist attacks over the past two decades, signaling a bold new chapter in India’s counterterrorism strategy.

Videos circulating on social media, shared by Pakistani locals, captured the aftermath of the strikes, forcing Pakistan’s military to acknowledge the precision hits carried out by Indian Rafale fighter jets.

Equipped with advanced standoff munitions capable of striking targets from 50 to 300 kilometers, the French-made jets proved their lethal prowess, military analysts noted on television discussions.

The October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel reshaped global perceptions of counterterrorism, a shift Pakistan failed to grasp. While the Islamic world largely remained silent as Israel pursued Hamas in Gaza, Pakistan clung to outdated diplomatic strategies, expecting international sympathy as India prepared its response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

US President Donald Trump’s reaction underscored Pakistan’s diminishing global relevance. “I knew it was coming. I hope India and Pakistan de-escalate quickly. They’ve been fighting for decades,” Trump remarked briefly at the Oval Office. His casual tone dismissed the notion of a nuclear flashpoint in South Asia, signaling Washington’s limited concern for Pakistan’s narrative.

The Pahalgam attack provided India with undeniable justification for punitive strikes, mirroring Israel’s relentless pursuit of Hamas. Western nations, long criticized for inconsistent standards on terrorism, can no longer apply double standards. India recognized the post-Hamas global shift, while Pakistan miscalculated, clinging to a bygone era of diplomatic leverage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered on his vow, made at a Bihar rally a day after the Pahalgam massacre, to punish those responsible. The flawless execution of Operation Sindoor, targeting Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) strongholds, highlights India’s growing intelligence capabilities within Pakistan. This marks a significant recovery from the loss of deep assets in the mid-1990s, bolstering India’s strategic reach.

Unlike the 2019 Balakot airstrike, India must recognize that a single operation without sustained follow-up risks allowing terror networks to regroup. To dismantle Pakistan’s terror infrastructure permanently, India should normalize such strikes, delivering firepower whenever evidence of terrorist activity emerges. This relentless approach is the only way to shutter Pakistan’s terrorism factories.

Pakistan must understand that India will strike decisively and repeatedly to neutralize threats. Operation Sindoor is not a one-off—it is a declaration of an uninhibited India, ready to act unimpeded in defence of its sovereignty and security.
