Pakistani Media Peddles Military Narrative After India Strikes Nine Targets

By TRH News Desk

NEW DELHI, May 7, 2025 – Pakistani media outlets reacted with a mix of outrage, skepticism, and calls for retaliation following India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday.

Ministry of Defence in a statement said that the “strikes were in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians”. Pakistani media accused India of aggression.

The Express Tribune, a leading English-language daily, condemned the strikes as a “flagrant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty”. Quoting Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the outlet reported, “India’s reckless actions endanger regional peace and stability. Pakistan reserves the right to respond decisively.”

The newspaper highlighted the military’s state of high alert, noting that Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir convened an emergency meeting to assess the situation.

Samaa TV, a prominent news channel, broke the news of Pakistan’s military preparing an “immediate and swift” response, citing unnamed defence sources. “Pakistan has started the process of retaliation,” the channel reported, emphasizing that the armed forces were “fully mobilized” to counter any further Indian moves.

The Dawn, another major daily, took a more measured tone but questioned India’s narrative. “Indian claims of targeting terrorist camps lack credible evidence, much like the 2019 Balakot strikes,” an editorial stated, referencing India’s past assertions of eliminating militants that Pakistan had dismissed as exaggerated.

Geo News amplified fears of escalation, reporting that madrassas in PoK were closed for 10 days due to concerns they could be misidentified as militant centers. “India’s history of labeling civilian institutions as terror hubs is a dangerous precedent,” the channel quoted Hafiz Nazir Ahmad, director of Pakistani Kashmir’s Department of Religious Affairs, as saying.

The report suggested that the closures reflected Islamabad’s anxiety over a potential deeper Indian incursion.

The News International focused on domestic sentiment, highlighting public anger and protests in Lahore and Karachi. “India’s aggression cannot go unanswered,” the outlet quoted Punjab provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb.

ARY News took a hawkish stance, airing interviews with retired military officials who urged a “befitting response”.

“Pakistan’s armed forces are ready to teach India a lesson,” said former Major General Ejaz Awan, a frequent commentator. The channel also reported unverified claims of Indian jets being “chased away” by Pakistani forces, though no evidence substantiated this.
