NEW DELHI, May 10, 2025 – “Operation Sindoor,” launched on May 7, 2025, resulted in the elimination of five high-profile terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in targeted strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The operation, which hit nine terror camps, including LeT’s Markaz Taiba in Muridke and JeM’s Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, has been hailed as a decisive blow to Pakistan-based terror networks.
India launched “Operation Sindoor,” in the aftermath of April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. LeT’s front The Resistance Front (TRF) was accused of carrying out the Pahalgam terror attack. PTI released a list of high-profile terrorists killed in the May 7 Indian strikes at the nine terror bases while quoting sources.
- Mudassar Khadian Khas (alias Mudassar, alias Abu Jundal), a senior LeT operative and in-charge of Markaz Taiba in Muridke, was killed in the strikes. Khas, a key figure in LeT’s operations, received a guard of honour at his funeral, with wreaths laid on behalf of Pakistan’s Army Chief and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The funeral prayer, held at a government school in Muridke, was led by Hafiz Abdul Rauf of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), a UN-designated terrorist. A serving Pakistani Lieutenant General and the Inspector General of Punjab Police attended, highlighting Pakistan’s complex ties with terror groups.
- Hafiz Muhammed Jameel, JeM’s senior leader and eldest brother-in-law of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, was neutralized in Bahawalpur. Jameel, who managed Markaz Subhan Allah, played a central role in radicalizing youth and fundraising for JeM’s terror activities. His death marks a significant disruption to JeM’s ideological and financial networks.
- Mohammad Yusuf Azhar (alias Ustad Ji, alias Mohd Salim, alias Ghosi Sahab), another brother-in-law of Masood Azhar, was killed in the strikes. A key JeM operative, Azhar handled weapons training and was wanted for his role in the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, as well as multiple terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. His elimination weakens JeM’s operational capabilities in the region.
- Khalid (alias Abu Akasha), an LeT operative, was killed in a strike in Pakistan. Involved in several terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and weapons smuggling from Afghanistan, Khalid’s funeral in Faisalabad was attended by senior Pakistani Army officials and the Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad, raising questions about state complicity in terror activities.
- Mohammad Hassan Khan, son of JeM’s PoK operational commander Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri, was also neutralized. Khan coordinated terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, making him a critical target in India’s counterterrorism efforts. His death disrupts JeM’s command structure in PoK.
The strikes, executed between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in locations including Muridke, Bahawalpur, and PoK sites like Kotli and Bhimber, killing an estimated 70–80 terrorists. India’s Ministry of Defence emphasized the operation’s “focused, measured, and non-escalatory” nature, avoiding Pakistani military installations.
The presence of Pakistani military and civilian officials at the funerals of Khas and Khalid has drawn sharp criticism. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing Pakistan’s claims of Indian aggression, stated, “Pakistan’s duplicity is evident when its officials honor terrorists while denying support for groups like LeT and JeM.”
