Mumbai, October 9, 2025— Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another is quickly shaping up to be the frontrunner in this year’s awards season, with Variety confirming that Warner Bros. will campaign Chase Infiniti in the Lead Actress category for the upcoming Oscars.

The critically acclaimed action-thriller, loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland,” follows a group of disillusioned revolutionaries who reunite to rescue a comrade’s daughter when a long-dormant enemy resurfaces. Boasting a powerhouse ensemble — Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor — Anderson’s latest work has been hailed as one of his most ambitious and emotionally resonant films yet.

At its center stands Chase Infiniti, a 24-year-old Indianapolis-born newcomer making her feature film debut as Willa Ferguson, the daughter of DiCaprio’s character, a former radical named Bob. According to Variety, Infiniti’s performance “commands attention” and “anchors the film’s moral and emotional weight,” earning her a dedicated Best Actress campaign that strategically avoids vote-splitting with Hall and Taylor, who will compete in supporting categories.

Critical Momentum Builds

The film has achieved near-universal acclaim, holding a 95% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95 on Metacritic, with Variety’s awards projections placing One Battle After Another on track for up to 14 Academy Award nominations — a number that would tie the record set by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016).

Early reactions on social media have stoked the buzz surrounding Infiniti’s breakout performance.

Chris Pugh, TV producer, wrote on X: “Chase Infiniti is capturing attention as the breakout talent in a star-studded cast… could this be the role that defines a new Hollywood career?”

Speaking to Variety, Anderson revealed the long gestation of the film — nearly eight years in the making — was largely because he was waiting for the right actor to play Willa.

“The moment we found Willa (played by Chase Infiniti), I finally felt it was time to make this movie,” Anderson said.
