New Orleans Attacker Worked for US Army for 10-yr: Report

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, January 2: The New Orleans attacker Shamsuddin Jabbar had been working for the US army for almost a decade. An old video posted by the New Orleans attacker has become a tool for a war of words in the US after the President-elect Donald Trump raised diatribe against immigrants on Wednesday.

“When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by the Democrats and the Fake news media, but it turned out to be true,” said Trump in a post on the social media platforms after the New Orleans attack early on Wednesday morning.

Reports said that at least 15 people were killed after Jabbar ploughed his truck into a crowd at a high speed. The US President Joe Biden addressed the nation to state that Jabbar was Daesh indoctrinated. A Daesh flag has also been found from the truck.

An old video of Jabbar has surfaced. The YouTube has taken down the video. In this video, Jabbar gives his introduction, saying that he “worked for one of the largest US government contractors in the country, Deloitte”.

“Jabbar states in the video that he spent 10 years traveling and working for the U.S. military,” said Jeremy Lofredo, a US-based media person, while sharing the video of the New Orleans attacker on X.

Tom Joseph, a US-based commentator, called Trump stupid, accusing him of lying while “blaming immigrants for crimes when the suspect in the New Orleans attack is 42 years old Shamsuddin Jabbar, a US Army vet born and raised in Texas and carrying an ISIS flag in his truck”.

Trump also said in his post that “the crime rate in our country is at a level that has never been seen before”. Trump during the electioneering for the presidential elections had also been raising rhetoric against the illegal immigrants.

But the old video of Jabbar revealed that he had been raised in Beaumont, Texas. He served in the US Army. The video is four years old. But it has been taken down. Yet, the video has gone viral on the social media after the New Orleans car crash incident in which 15 people were killed and dozens have been seriously injured.

“In it (the video), he states that he works at the Midas Real Estate Group in Houston as a team lead. His role likely involved property management or operations, leveraging his technical expertise from his time as a data engineer,” said a social media user while posting the four-year-old video of Jabbar.

Meanwhile, the FBI is probing the incident as a terror case. “Today, at approximately 3:15 a.m. CST, an individual drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens of others. After hitting the crowd, he exited the vehicle and fired upon local law enforcement,” the FBI said in a media statement.

The FBI also said that the “Law enforcement returned fire, and the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two law enforcement officers were injured and transported to a local hospital.”

It stated that the “subject has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented, and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle.”

The FBI also stated that “an ISIS flag was located in the vehicle”. “The FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations. Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter,” added the FBI in the statement.
