New Delhi, October 26, 2025 — Early voting in the 2025 New York City mayoral election began with a surge in turnout on Day 1, according to data cited by PIX11.com. The New York City Board of Elections (BOE) reported 79,409 voters checked in across all five boroughs on Friday — a figure approximately five times higher than the roughly 15,000 who voted on the first day of early voting in the 2021 mayoral election.
The breakdown by borough on October 25 (unaudited) shows: Manhattan 24,046; Bronx 7,793; Brooklyn 22,105; Queens 19,045; Staten Island 6,420.
Voters in the race for mayor — including Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa and independent-running former Governor Andrew Cuomo — told media outlets housing costs and affordability were among their chief concerns.
While the mayoral contest has drawn national attention in the US, as well as global lens, this year’s ballot also includes races for city comptroller, public advocate, district attorney and city council seats. Early voting runs through November 2, ahead of Election Day on November 4.
Campaign activity remains high: Progressive figures such as Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez and Bernie Sanders held rallies for Zohran Mamdani during the early-voting weekend as the divergent field continues to campaign vigorously per Fox News.
The unusually high opening turnout signals that New Yorkers may be treating this off-year municipal election with more urgency than in past cycles. Whether it presages overall higher participation remains to be seen — but the BOE figures and the on-the-ground buzz both suggest voters are anxious about cost-of-living, housing and leadership in a city undergoing rapid change.
