New Delhi, August 8: The Opposition trained guns on the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval over the raging ethnic violence in Manipur. Initiating the discussion on the motion, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi questioned the role of Doval in dealing with the situations in violence-torn Manipur.

“For three months the violence in Manipur is unabated. What is the National Security Advisor doing? What the intelligence agencies had been doing?” asked Gogoi. The Congress leader stressed that the Manipur violence is a failure of the national security and the government owes an explanation.

Gogoi also gave accounts of the arms looted by the hooligans. He also accused that the drugs and cultivation of the banned crops had risen under the watch of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state. Gogoi accused that the state police was pressurized by the chief minister’s office to release a drug-peddler.

Later taking part in the debate on the motion, Congress MP Manish Tewari also questioned that the national security by claiming that all the buffer zones have been built on the Indian territory in the eastern Ladakh along the line of actual control with China.

The Congress leaders questioned the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs also in dealing with the ethnic violence in Manipur. “The Manipur Police have levelled allegations against the Asam Rifles of being partisan in the violence. The Assam Rifles comes directly under the administrative control of the MHA,” added Gogoi.

The Congress leader, while questioning the national security threats, said that under the watch of the BJP government at the Centre the Assam and Mizoram Police have been skirmishing. “The unabated violence in Manipur has ramifications for the national security. If Manipur is burning, it’s like India is burning. Home Minister during his visit to Manipur had said that he would return to the state within 15 days, which did not take place. Also, the committees formed during his visit have not held any meetings,” charged Gogoi.

While the Opposition sought to corner the government on the issue of the Manipur violence, the BJP MPs, including Nishikant Dubey, turned their spotlight on the Opposition alliance and dug out differences among the constituents in the past.
