California Governor Accuses Trump of Escalating Tensions with ‘Military Dragnet’ in Los Angeles
By TRH News Desk
NEW DELHI, June 11, 2025 – California Governor Gavin Newsom sharply criticized President Donald Trump, accusing him of “choosing escalation and “pulling a military dragnet” over Los Angeles by deploying National Guard troops and active-duty military personnel to the city. Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, Trump fired salvos at Newsom, asking him to crackdown against protestors. Trump warned the California Governor that he could “face tough times ahead” if he failed to act.
“We actually spent 16 minutes on the phone, and I told him he’s got to get his acts together,” Trump told reporters. The US President added that he asked Newsom to act swiftly, “because you gonna have some bad times in Los Angeles.”. He had a pleasant conversation, sarcastically quipped Trump.
Newsom has accused Trump of “manufacturing a crisis.” “The move is not to restore order but to manufacture a crisis amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles County,” Newsom told reporters amid the spiraling tension.
In a series of statements posted on X, Newsom condemned Trump’s actions, alleging that the deployment of approximately 2,000 National Guard troops and 500 active-duty Marines is an unlawful overreach aimed at provoking chaos.
“Trump is behaving like a tyrant, not a President,” Newsom stated, emphasizing that the move threatens democratic principles. He alleged that “by turning the military against American citizens, he is threatening the very core of our democracy. I’m asking the court to immediately block these unlawful actions.”
Newsom asserted that “Los Angeles protests were already being managed effectively by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) before Trump’s intervention. “We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved, he said. The deployment of National Guard and Marines is a serious breach of state sovereignty,” asserted Newsom.
The California Governor formally requested the Trump administration to rescind the troop deployment and return control of the National Guard to the state. He also warned Los Angeles residents to remain peaceful and avoid violence, suggesting Trump is attempting to bait protesters into actions that could justify further crackdowns.
“Don’t take Trump’s bait. Stay peaceful. Stay focused,” Newsom urged, cautioning that those who harm law enforcement or damage property risk arrest.
Trump has defended his decision to deploy troops, claiming it is necessary to curb what he describes as escalating violence and protests not only in Los Angeles but potentially beyond. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated, “We’re seeing dangerous unrest in California, and it’s spreading fast. If we don’t act now, you’ll see this chaos move to other cities. I’m protecting Americans from radicals who want to burn it all down.”
Breitbart News reported Trump’s remarks from a recent rally, where he suggested that protests in Los Angeles could inspire similar unrest in other urban centers if not addressed decisively.
“Los Angeles is just the start. These agitators want to take their violence to San Francisco, Seattle, and beyond. We’re stopping it now,” the outlet quoted Trump saying at the rally.
In an indication that the showdown is headed for tough times ahead, Trump told Newsmax that his administration is prepared to deploy additional forces to other cities if necessary.
“Governors like Newsom let these protests get out of hand. I’m doing what they won’t—restoring law and order,” Trump told the media outlet.
