Vinod Tawde Faces Allegations of Cash Distribution Ahead of Polling

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, November 19: A day before the polling, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Vinod Tawde was caught in a big soup. The Opposition claimed that Tawde was caught distributing money ahead of the elections.

The BJP defended Tawde, saying that while he was moving around a highway in Thane district he went to attend an indoor meeting at a hotel. “The meeting was being held for the organisational activities as a part of the organisational unofficial. There, out of nowhere, the Bahujan Aghadi Party came there and create a ruckus,” said the BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi.

The BJP leader asked the Congress to substantiate the charges of Tawde allegedly carrying ₹5 crore cash. “The Congress should share video footage of cash being carried. ₹5 crores will be a huge amount of money that cannot be carried in pocket,” added Trivedi.

The video has gone viral on internet ahead of the Maharashtra elections. The BJP-led Mahayuti is caught in a bitter tussle with the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Sanjay Rout of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) alleged that “Tawde has become a victim of the internal political dynamics of the BJP. The Home Ministry in Maharashtra seems to have been tracking the movement of Tawde as he belongs to the OBC community”.

The viral video showed the crowd surrounding Tawde flashing wads of cash consisting of ₹500 notes. The video also shows a television reporter reporting live from the spot.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi tagged the video to ask to whom did the ₹5 crores cash belong to. “BJP’s National General Secretary Vinod Tawde has been caught distributing money in a hotel in Maharashtra. Vinod Tawde had taken a bag full of money and was calling people there and distributing money,” the Maharashtra unit of the Congress alleged in a post on X.

The Maharashtra Congress also alleged that “when the public came to know about this news, there was a huge uproar. Many videos of Vinod Tawde with money are coming out”.

Trivedi defended Tawde, saying that the “Congress is the only party which had been accused of running government at the Centre by paying cash for votes”. Tawde also claimed that an FIR has been filed against Tawde for violating the model code of conduct and not trying to influence the elections.
