New Delhi, November 21, 2025 — On the first day of his three days long visit to Manipur, Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat has stressed that there should be a new government in place in the state, as well as peace and stability.
Speaking to intellectuals in Imphal, Bhagwat stated that efforts are underway for the formation of a new government along with finding peace in the strife-torn state. Bhagwat is visiting Manipur after a gap of three years.
“Government and parties, I don’t indulge very much in that, but Manipur must have a government, and to my knowledge they are trying for it,” Deccan Chronicle reported on Friday. Bhagwat will be visiting various parts of Manipur. His itinerary includes meetings with cross-sections of the society in Manipur.
After the resignation of N. Biren Singh, former Chief Minister, President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur. Governor Ajay Bhalla, former Home Secretary, is learnt to be overseeing backchannel discussions for peace between Meitei and Kuki communities.
Reports earlier said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is exploring scope to rope in Kuki MLAs in the formation of the new government in the state. The BJP faced a rout in Manipur in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, losing both parliamentary seats to the Congress.
The daily quoted Bhagwat saying “we are at it, we will definitely do it….and constantly, during these trials and tribulations, our constant efforts were not to let the people of Manipur asunder on different bases.” “We will definitely take everybody along or join those who are already in the process,” added the report, while quoting the RSS chief.
Bhagwat is currently visiting the Northeast as part of the centenary celebrations of the RSS. He earlier visited Assam. The RSS earlier has said that Manipur has a long road ahead to attain peace.
While the RSS has not officially stated that the organisation is involved in the backchannel for the government formation, Bhagwat’s remarks assume significance as the state stays in an extended phase of strife. Manipur had erupted into a largescale violence after the High Court in a verdict called for the inclusion of Meitei community in the scheduled tribes category.
