NEW DELHI, June 18, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi told U.S. President Donald Trump that there had been no third-party involvement in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan after four-day-long military conflicts. Modi, while speaking to Trump on phone for 35-minute, also told the US President that there had been no discussions on trade between the two nations in the context of India-Pakistan ceasefire.

“Prime Minister was scheduled to meet the US President on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. But due to pressing reasons, the US President had leave early,” Vikram Misri, India’s foreign secretary, said in an over four-minute-long video message in Hindi. Misri said that Trump invited Modi to come to the US on his way back from Canada, which the Prime Minister declined while citing prior engagements.

“The two leaders agreed to meet soon. The Prime Minister invited the US President to visit India for the Quad meeting,” added Misri. The Prime Minister spoke to the US President for the first time after the Operation Sindoor in which India carried out strikes inside Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir against terror infrastructure. Modi briefed Trump about the Operation Sindoor.

“The Prime Minister told the US President that India will treat an act of terror as war. India will retaliate with canons against bullets,” Misri quoted the Prime Minister telling the US President. The phone call between the US President and the Prime Minister came ahead of Trump reportedly meeting Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir over lunch today in Washington.

Tough talk by the Prime Minister with Trump came also amid the US President often stating that he had brokered the peace between India and Pakistan during the military conflict. Trump had been stating that he managed ceasefire between India and Pakistan while promising more trade with the US for the two countries.

This is the first occasion that Modi rebutted Trump on his “India-Pakistan ceasefire” claims in a direct talk with the US President on phone. Earlier, Misri had rejected the claims that the ceasefire was agreed upon with the intervention of any other country. Misri quoted the Prime Minister telling Trump that Pakistan sought ceasefire after India launched a major counterstrike against the military bases of the Islamic nation. The White House readout of Modi-Trump phone call is still awaited.
