From India’s first semiconductor chip to tenfold nuclear power growth, PM Modi’s Red Fort speech unveils plan for tech turnaround

New Delhi, August 15, 2025 — Marking his 12th Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed the Red Fort into a launchpad for India’s next leap toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. On the 79th Independence Day, he announced a string of transformative initiatives spanning technology, energy, economy, and national security.
Semiconductors: A Mission Mode Push
Recalling decades of missed opportunities, PM Modi announced that India’s first Made in India semiconductor chip will roll out by the end of this year. “Fifty to sixty years ago, our chip dreams were killed at birth. This time, we will lead,” he declared.
Tenfold Nuclear Power Expansion
Work has already begun on 10 new nuclear reactors as part of a mission to increase India’s nuclear power generation capacity by more than ten times by 2047, making clean energy a central pillar of development.
GST Reforms as a ‘Diwali Gift’
The Prime Minister promised next-generation GST reforms to be announced during Diwali 2025, lowering taxes on essential goods and offering relief to MSMEs, local vendors, and consumers.
Reform Task Force for a $10 Trillion Economy
A new high-powered Reform Task Force will drive economic reforms, cut bureaucratic delays, and modernise governance to prepare Bharat for the demands of a $10 trillion economy by 2047.
₹1 Lakh Crore Employment Drive
Launching the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, PM Modi unveiled a ₹1 lakh crore scheme under which newly employed youth will receive ₹15,000 per month, targeting 3 crore young beneficiaries.
High-Powered Demography Mission
Citing the risks of demographic imbalance from infiltration and illegal migration, PM Modi announced a High-Powered Demography Mission to safeguard the unity, integrity, and rights of Indian citizens.
Energy Independence: National Deepwater Exploration Mission
To reduce dependence on fuel imports, PM Modi launched the National Deepwater Exploration Mission and announced large-scale expansion in solar, hydrogen, hydro, and nuclear energy production.
Made in India Jet Engines
Issuing a national challenge, PM Modi urged scientists and youth to develop indigenous jet engines, just as India achieved breakthroughs with vaccines during COVID-19 and UPI in digital payments.
