New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding meeting of the Council of Ministers at the newly-built Pragati Maidan convention centre on the conclusion of over one month of an outreach programme by the ministers to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the National democratic Alliance government (NDA) at the Centre. The meeting of the Council of Ministers is taking place in an informal setting without any fixed agenda, said an informed source.
On May 30, the Modi government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had launched one-month long outreach exercise to connect with the people to amplify the achievements of the ruling dispensation at the Centre. The country was divided in 117 clusters, and the ministers were assigned the territories to hit the ground running.
Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar was given the Delhi cluster, and he covered several regions within the national capital to take a stock of the development works and also to hold outreach with a cross sections of the society.
“Delhi unit of the BJP held several programmes with Dr Jaishankar in which we gave an overview of the development works carried out in the national capital. All the Lok Sabha MPs were part of the exercise along with other senior party functionaries. We have been able to showcase the development template of the Modi government to the people,” Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP chief, told The Raisina Hills.
Informed sources said that the Council of Ministers is meeting in the backdrop of the conclusion of the outreach programme, while also to take stock of the ground feedback and a relaxed sharing of the feedback. The meeting is also taking place ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, commencing from July 20, while the Opposition is bracing to pounce on the government on several issues. The raging ethnic violence in Manipur, the horrific three-train mishap in Balasore which killed over 290 people, and other issues are being readied by the Opposition to take up in the Monsoon session. However, the Monsoon session of Parliament, sources said, may not be a topic of discussion in the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
That the meeting will brainstorm for ideation was also made evident following the conclusion of the ‘Chintan Shivir’ held by the ministries on the direction of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the last few weeks. The ministers are likely to share some of the ideas picked from the Chintan Shivir.
