New Delhi, May 3: After logging in 12 rallies and three roadshows, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled two-front attack in the Karnataka Assembly election campaign. Quickly adapting to the changed strategy, the saffron outfit has also trashed the adjustment politics in the state.

Modi will be taking a two-day break after hectic campaigning in the state. Modi sought to change the poll narrative, latching on venomous snake barb on him by Congress chief Mallikarjuna Kharge and main Opposition party’s poll promise of banning the Bajrang Dal.

“This leg of electioneering by Modi has been different than his previous campaigns, which he did before the poll date was announced by the Election Commission. In this leg of electioneering, Modi has attacked the JD (S) in equal intensity. Modi and the Union Minister for Affairs Amit Shah have lashed out at the JD (S) for dynastic politics and corruption,” said a senior Karnataka-based functionary of the BJP.

Incidentally, Modi has always shown public affection to former prime minister HDS Deve Gowda. There has also been speculation in some quarters that the BJP may strike a post-poll adjustment with the JD (S) in the event the saffron outfits falls shorts of the numbers in the Karnataka Assembly.

“From the first day of Modi electioneering, the Karnataka unit of the BJP has taken the message in the changed strategy and shunned the adjustment politics. In previous elections, the BJP leaders used to enter into adjustments with the JD (S) in certain pockets of the Old Mysuru region. Now, there is no such adjustment, and all the candidates are going all guns blazing against the JD (S) nominees in the Assembly elections,” said a senior BJP functionary.

Incidentally, the JD (S) is seen to command influence in the Old Mysuru region, which is the pocketborough of the party, but the BJP is making attempts to break into the territory to gain new support bases.

“Modi will take a break for two days, and he will be back on May 6, May 7 and May 8 to lead the campaigning. Modi has covered the whole state and the top cities in each region. In the last three days of the campaigning, Modi will visit the second layer of the cities to build on the campaign plank, which is now standing on the twin legs of hard Hindutva and double-engine model of development,” added the BJP functionary.
