GUWAHATI, September 14, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Assam’s Darrang on Sunday, accused Congress of insulting the Northeast and ignoring its sacrifices since the 1962 China war. “Pandit Nehru’s words after the war wounded the Northeast, and today’s Congress still mocks those wounds,” he said, adding that his government honoured cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika with the Bharat Ratna despite opposition ridicule.

Modi launched development projects worth ₹6,500 crore, including a new bridge, ring road, and medical college. Highlighting Assam’s nearly 13% growth, he credited the “double-engine government” of BJP at the Centre and state.

Announcing festive relief, Modi said GST rates on cement, medicines, insurance, and vehicles will be reduced from Navratri. “This Diwali, households, farmers, and youth will feel the benefit of lower costs,” he promised.

The PM also urged citizens to adopt a “Swadeshi pledge” by buying Made-in-India products. “Vocal for Local must become our mantra,” he told the crowd.

On security, Modi accused Congress of siding with “infiltrators and anti-national forces” and vowed to protect land and resources for Assam’s farmers, tribals, and youth.

“The 21st century’s next phase is Assam’s time. The Northeast will be the growth engine of Viksit Bharat,” Modi declared, ending with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”
