Modi had hosted Trump for a townhall in India in his first term. The Prime Minister had also taken part in a townhall with Trump in the US at the fag end of his first term.
“This visit will be an opportunity to build upon the successes of our collaboration in his first term and develop an agenda to further elevate and deepen our partnership,” said the Prime Minister.
He listed “the areas of technology, trade, defence, energy, and supply chain resilience” for future deepening of ties between India and the US. “We will work together for the mutual benefit of the people of our two countries and shape a better future for the world,” added Modi.
The US deported 104 illegal Indians ahead of the Trump-Modi meeting. The Opposition is riled up with the manner of deportation. The Indian citizens were allegedly handcuffed and their feet chained while they were deported in a military plane.
India seems bracing for tough bargaining by Trump. Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman announced lowering of import duties on several goods in the Union Budget.
The Prime Minister will be co-chairing the AI Action Summit in Paris. The event will see a gathering of the world leaders and global tech CEOs. They will exchange views on collaborative approach to AI technology for innovation and larger public good.
“The bilateral segment of my visit (to France) will provide an opportunity to review the progress on 2047 Horizon Roadmap for India-France strategic partnership along with my friend President Macron,” added Modi.
He also stated that “we will also travel to the historic French city of Marseille to inaugurate the first Indian Consulate in France and also visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project”.
India is a member of the consortium of partner countries in International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project.
“I will also pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery,” added Modi.
