New Delhi, November 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flew in India’s Tejas fighter jet. Tejas is India’s indigenously developed fighter jet which has been deployed in the Air Force.

Taking to Twitter, Modi said: “Successfully completed a sortie on the Tejas. The experience was incredibly enriching, significantly bolstering my confidence in our country’s indigenous capabilities, and leaving me with a renewed sense of pride and optimism about our national potential.”

The prime minister is visiting Bengaluru. He is taking stock  of the manufacturing facility of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The prime minister office in a statement had said that Moid will review and visit the manufacturing facility of the HAL. The PMO also had said that Modi would check the facility for Tejas jets.

India is increasing the Tejas fighter jets in Air Force with aims to enhance the defence capabilities. It may be recalled that India and the US had signed an agreement for engine for Tejas. The agreement was signed during the visit of Modi to the US where he had held summit meeting with President Joe Biden.

India is likely to increase the strength of Tejas fighter jets in the Air Force to strengthen the defence capabilities as well as deterrence. It may also be recalled that the Modi government is laying much emphasis on indigenous defence productions. By limiting imports in several of the defence areas, Modi government is encouraging local production. India and the US are also collaborating in exchange of critical technologies as part of the defence cooperation. Tejas fighter jet production is likely to gain from India and the US defence cooperation.

It may also be known that HAL is partner with France for the joint production of the fourth generation fighter jet Rafale. By visiting the HAL manufacturing facility and flying in Tejas, Modi has also sent out a loud message of the politics of nationalism to the voters in Rajasthan where polling is underway.

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also flown in the Tejas fighter jet. With tension growing with China on the border, India is strengthening defence capabilities. Besides fighter jets, India also has been increasing its naval fleet of warships and submarines. India is also acquiring high-altitude helicopters to keep a watch on the Himalayas.

Modi was the lead campaigner for the BJP in the Rajasthan Assembly election. The BJP is making determined efforts to wrest power in Rajasthan from the Congress. It may also be recalled that ahead of polling in Chhattisgarh, Modi had gone to the village of Birsa Munda in Jharkhand to give a loud message to the tribal vote base.
