All-Party Delegation to Sensitise Major Nations on Terrorism

NEW DELHI, May 17, 2025 – The government on Saturday unveiled a seven-member delegation to lead an international outreach on Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is the only member of the group with skills in diplomacy.
The government decided on sending a team of parliamentarians to sensitize the world against terrorism after an all-party meeting. The government briefed the all-party meeting on military responses against Pakistan-based terror outfits in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
“In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united. Seven all-party delegations will soon visit key partner nations, carrying our shared message of zero-tolerance to terrorism,” said Union Minister for parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju in a post on X. He added that the delegation gives a message of “a powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences.”
Tharoor, a vocal supporter of the response of India against terror launchpads in Pakistan and Operation Sindoor, said: “I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation’s point of view on recent events.”
The Congress MP stated that “when national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting.”
Tharoor leads the panel of parliamentarians also consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJ Panda. The JD (U) MP Sanjay Jha, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of the DMK, Supriya Sule of the NCP, and Shrikant Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) are other six members of the panel.

Incidentally, Tharoor is the only member in the panel who is sought out by the international and domestic media on matters of geopolitics. Other six members of the panel have not been known to have skills in advocacy in matters of geopolitics.
Political observers drew a parallel of Prime Minister Narendra Modi banking on Tharoor with late PV Narsimha Rao, who as Prime Minister in 1990, had sent the then Opposition face late Atal Bihari Vajpayee to lead a delegation to the United Nations and present India’s case on the issue of Kashmir.
The delegation will mostly reach out to some of the permanent member nations of the UN Security Council. The US, the UK, Germany, France, the UAE, South Africa, South Korea, and a few more nations are likely to be the outreach target of the parliamentary delegation.
The decision to send the delegation came amid India finding cold response to post-Pahalgam terror attack strikes against nine terror bases in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. Most of the nations had counselled India to exercise restraint. They had, however, condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.
