Mining Abuses

Two former Union Ministers – Ravi Shankar Prasad and harsh Vardhan – had hearty laughs when the BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri rained abuses, dug out from gutters, at the BSP member Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha on the penultimate day of the special session of parliament, and Deccan Herald has opined that the incident was unheard of worthy of no explanations whatsoever. The Bengaluru-based daily has also argued that Bidhuri’s abuses confirmed that hate speech has entered even parliament now. The daily lampooned attempts made out to defend the act of Bidhuri, on social media platforms and elsewhere, while questioning delay in suspending him from the Lok Sabha.

The BJP has got two of its MPs to write letters to Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla to allege that Ali had been a serial offender, and almost suggesting that the BSP MP deserved Bidhuri’s abuses. Bidhuri has demonstrated that the ruling party’s moral hectoring is certainly hollow.

Thuggish China

Sports unites, but for China even the Asian Games is on occasion to indulge in peddling its crooked world views. The Hindu in its Editorial has slammed China for not allowing three Indian Wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh — Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega and Mepung Lamgu — to board flight despite getting the accreditation needed to travel. The Chennai-based daily reminded that “three Wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh, due to take part in the World University Games in Chengdu, were issued stapled visas”. The daily called the decision to bar the athletes vindictive.

China leaves none in doubt that its state policy hinges on paranoia, and India must lower the bar of tolerance for Beijing’s transgressions in relations to deliver tit-for-tat responses.

Space Farms

The idea that solar farms can be set up in the space, in the lower earth orbit, dates back to 1960s, but, The Economic Times opined in its Editorial, the technology seems to be knocking the door. The business daily has expressed optimism at the claims of the SpaceX of Elon Musk to launch reusable rockets to help farm the solar power from the lower orbit, and also transport the clean energy to earth stations to give a new dimension to renewable energy.

At the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi, the developed countries committed to fulfil their obligations of $100 billion annually for climate change mitigation efforts, and it must surely be ensured that technology is not monopolized.
