Middle Path
The Asian Age has said in an Editorial that the lower rung of the Middle Class has not yet recovered from the impact of the economic downturns. The daily has also said that no ruling party can escape the fury of this class, while advocating putting more money in their hands.
The newspaper argued that the Reserve Bank of India is least likely to abandon the path of hiking rates, expected to be another 25 basis points in April, because inflation will hit poor much harsher. It also argued that the Narendra Modi government would most likely watch from the sidelines the monetary policy committee of the RBI taking another hawkish flight.
The RBI is mandated by Parliament to ensure that inflation stays in a range, with six per cent being the ceiling. The RBI has failed in its job. It needs to inform Parliament why it’s dooming prospects of the youth of the nation by killing growth.
Ring-fencing China
The trilateral announcement at Naval Base Point Loma, the US, was an extension of the bid of the western block to prepare to shield Taiwan from the prospects of Chinese invasion. The Hindu in its Editorial has said that the $368 billion deal to equip Australia with nuclear-powered submarines, SSN-AUKUS, which will carry design of the UK and technology of the US, will make Canberra the Launchpad for South China Sea.
The Chennai-based daily has given a full account of the strategic import of the announcement made with clear targets to check the likes of China, North Korea, Iran and others. The daily said that India was sounded, while the development should bring security relief to New Delhi as well against Chinese belligerence.
Australian drift from Beijing’s influence had given a new lease of life to Quad. Now Australia is firmly in the Indo Pacific game. This should keep China on watch.
Neighbour Tibet
China historically had never been India’s neighbour until Beijing occupied Tibet. The Economic Times has said that the bipartisan adoption of the US Senate resolution to recognize the McMohan Line is a landmark development. This clearly ensures that the US considers Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.
The business daily said that McMohan Line was accepted by India and Tibet in 1914 as the border. It also stated that the resolution will help in boosting the rules-based international order. Also, it noted that the resolution marks better understanding of mischievous actions of China to depict Indian cities in mandarin in its map.
Until 1952, India shared border only with Tibet. China as an occupier of Tibet now demands further expansion of border into Indian territories for sole reasons of military arrogance. India must work with global community to call the bluff of the bully in China.
