Iran Launches Retaliatory Missile Strikes on Tel Aviv, Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict
By TRH News Desk
NEW DELHI, June 14, 2025 – Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Tel Aviv early Saturday morning amid ongoing conflict with Israel. The attack, which began at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. IST), follows Israel’s devastating airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites a day before, which killed several top commanders, including IRGC Quds Force leader Esmail Qaani.
Sirens wailed across Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as explosions rocked the region. Israeli authorities reported casualties and widespread damage.
Israel’s Channel 12 News reported that at least three Iranian missiles struck residential areas in Rishon LeZion, near Tel Aviv, with one hitting a high-rise building, killing one person and injuring 19 others, according to Magen David Adom rescue services cited by Ynet.
The Jerusalem Post described the scene as chaotic, with emergency services evacuating residents from damaged buildings amid thick smoke and debris. Haaretz quoted an Israeli military spokesperson stating that the Iron Dome defence system intercepted “dozens” of missiles, though several breached the defences, causing significant destruction in Ramat Gan.
Iran’s state-run Press TV claimed responsibility, stating the strikes were a “direct response” to Israel’s assassination of senior military figures and attacks on nuclear facilities. The outlet reported that Tehran launched over 100 missiles, targeting “military and intelligence bases” in Tel Aviv, including Mossad headquarters, though these claims remain unverified. Iranian state media also alleged that 78 people, mostly civilians, were killed in Israel’s prior strikes, a figure disputed by Israeli officials.
The retaliatory attack comes amid heightened tensions following Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion”, which killed IRGC Commander-in-Chief Hossein Salami, Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri, and nuclear scientist Fereydoun Abbasi, as confirmed by Al Jazeera and The New York Times. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a statement on X, vowed that successors would continue the mission of the fallen leaders, hinting at further action.
Local developments in Israel indicate a severe impact. Ynet reported that three people were killed overall, including one in Tel Aviv on Friday night and two in central Israel on Saturday morning, with 34 injured in the initial wave of attacks.
The Guardian cited Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, who noted additional civilian casualties in Gaza due to Israeli retaliatory strikes on aid seekers. CBS News reported that Israeli troops are evacuating residents from damaged areas in Ramat Gan, where numerous buildings were destroyed.
Iran’s Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran remains closed until Sunday, 2 p.m. local time, per SNN News, as the country braces for potential Israeli counter strikes. FlightRadar24 data shows airlines avoiding Israeli and Jordanian airspace, reflecting global aviation concerns.
Brent crude prices have surged by nearly 5%, driven by fears of a prolonged conflict. As rescue operations continue in Tel Aviv and diplomatic efforts intensify, the region teeters on the brink of all-out war.
