US Regulators Probing Source of E-coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald

New Delhi, October 28: Facing heat over the deadly E-coli outbreak in the US, the fast-food chain McDonald has removed onions from burgers. Experts are claiming that raw beef served in Beef Patties could be possibly linked to the deadly outbreak of E-coli.

The fast-food chain in a statement said that McDonald is removing onions from burgers. The CDC in the US is investigating 49 illnesses in 10 states linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers. “If you ate a Quarter Pounder hamburger from McDonald’s and have severe symptoms of E. coli, contact your healthcare provider,” CDC posted on X.

The CDC issued a warning about the E. coli outbreak, saying “it is linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders”. The warning came amid a worldwide concern on the outbreak of E-coli. The fast-food chain removed onions even in the Middle East while defending that beef is not the source of the deadly outbreak of E-coli.

McDonald in a statement denied that beef patties as a source of the E. coli outbreak. The deadly outbreak has linked to Quarter Pounder hamburgers has killed at least one person. Over 75 people in the US are being treated for E-coli.

“We remain very confident that any contaminated product related to this outbreak has been removed from our supply chain and is out of all McDonald’s restaurants,” Cesar Pina, Chief Supply Chain Officer of McDonald, said in a statement.

After the Colorado Department of Agriculture said that all subsamples from multiple lots of McDonald’s brand fresh and frozen beef patties had tested negative for E. coli, McDonald began removing onions from burgers. The fast-food chain is now hinting that onions could be possible source of deadly E-coli outbreak.

There is no report yet of any ailment from consumption of McDonald burgers in India. Onion slices are regularly used in burgers sold in India by fast-food joints. Even street vendors selling burgers use onion slices in their burgers.

There are various other burger joints operating in India where onion slices are integral to burgers. Reports said that McDonald sells 60 lakh burgers daily across continents. It has more than 40,000 stores in over 100 countries. Recently, McDonald ended franchise partnership in Sri Lanka.
