New Delhi, February 24: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday paid rich tributes to spiritual guru Sant Ravidas on his birth anniversary. In her message, Mayawati served a veild message at Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has unveiled a big size statue of Sant Ravidas in Varanasi.
The BSP supremo said in her message on the social media platform X: “Today, we pay our respects and tributes to the great Saint Guru Ravidas ji, who gave the immortal message of ‘Man changa to kathoti mein Ganga’ to the people, on his birth anniversary and hearty congratulations and best wishes to all his followers living in the country and the world. And a call to improve life by adopting his teachings.”
Sant Ravidas is a hailed as a social reformer and spiritual teacher. It is also believed that he has a massive followings among the people from the scheduled castes in Uttar Pradesh, and other states. The Dalit vote base in Uttar Pradesh, and the other states, has become a key electoral constituency being eyed upon by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. But Mayawati is known to assert her command on the 18 per cent Dalit vote base in UP.
The BSP supremo further said: “His message is to dedicate one’s work not to religion, narrow political and electoral interests etc., but to humanity and public service, due to which the life of the Bahujans here is suffering from many problems. It is important to be cautious about those who bow to him for political gains.”
Mayawati’s message was clearly aimed at Modi who unveiled the status of the spiritual guru in Varanasi yesterday. But the BSP chief was guarded in her remarks as she refrained from taking name of the prime minister. But she underlined that the people from the scheduled castes are suffering in the state. The BJP is the ruling party in the state.
The BSP supremo is giving mixed signals through her social media posts. She has not yet hit the campaign trail. The BSP supremo is likely to stick her traditional method of holding the public meetings in times of elections. But the political circles are abuzz with the prospects of Mayawati striking unofficial agreements with the suitable parties.
In another message she said: “Despite BSP’s repeated clear declaration of not forging an alliance with any party in the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections, spreading rumors about alliance every day proves that without BSP, some parties are not going to fare well here, while BSP needs its people. The interest of is paramount.”
The BSP supremo also argued that while keeping in view the interest and welfare of the entire society, especially the poor, exploited and neglected, BSP’s decision to contest the Lok Sabha general elections on its own strength with the body, mind and money of its people across the country is firm. People must be careful of rumours, she said.
