Akash Anand Pays Price for Flying Unguided

By Manish Anand

New Delhi, March 4: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has struck a lightning bolt to political dynasty. In expelling her nephew Akash Anand, Mayawati has set a high standard in politics.

The BSP supremo, who had been Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expelled Akash Anand for not showing remorse after he was stripped off the post of the national convenor of the party. As a young politician, Mayawati rightly expected him to be remorseful.

But the rookie politician showed no signs of mending ways. This left the BSP supremo with no option but to kick him out of the party.

Mayawati’s trusted lieutenant is her youngest brother, Anand Kumar. Her affections for Anand Kumar are well-known in the political circles. Akash Anand is son of Anand Kumar. Thus, he inherited the affections of aunt Mayawati.

To cause a public humiliation to her nephew on whom she showered affections at several of the press conferences may not have been easy for Mayawati. That she pulled away chubby Akash Anand from the thick of the electioneering in the Lok Sabha elections had been commented in party circles as her eagerness to protect her nephew.

Mayawati’s political parallel by all accounts if West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Trinamool Congress supremo has groomed her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as her heir. The TMC has said that Abhishek Banerjee will lead the party campaign in the 2026 Assembly elections.

‘Saas, Bahu aur Saajish’: Mayawati Removes Akash Anand as Heir

Unlike the BSP, the TMC has a battery of leaders who could have inherited the legacy of Mamata Banerjee. Yet, she chose her nephew for her heir.

The absence of a political heir for Navin Patnaik has brought a vacuum in leadership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha. Patnaik banished political talents in the BJD in his hey days.

Fearing the fate of the BJD, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar summoned his engineering graduate son Nishant Kumar to wear kurta-pyajama and appear before the media in Patna.

Udhyanidhi Stalin has been consecrated as heir to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. Uddhav Thackeray is more sanguine to establish his son Aditya Thackeray as his heir even at the cost of losing most of the strength of the Shiv Sena.

Amid family-stricken politicians who swear by democracy, Mayawati’s deed to banish her nephew is a lamppost that needs to shine brightly. She, indeed, was called an iron lady in the past. Mayawati still has strength to take strong decisions.
