New Delhi, March 16: Massive speculations erupted on social media platforms over the suspected killing of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed. Raja Muneeb claimed to have “broken the news of the killing of Saeed in Jhelum by gunmen”.
Muneeb credited his Pakistan-based associate Shabir Hussain Tori for breaking the news of the killing of Saeed, who headed Jamat-ud-Dawa, a banned terror outfit. Muneeb also posted two images of blood-soaked bodies lying on the back seat of a Toyota pickup car. “Saeed and his associate Nadeem were killed after gunmen opened fire on them in the Jhelum district,” Muneeb said in a broadcast. He also shared a video of the security personnel combing the areas where the incident is suspected to have taken place.
Ebad Ahmed, a Pakistan-based independent journalist, posted on X, saying: “Reports circulating in Pakistan claim that Hafiz Saeed, chief of Jamat-ud-Dawa and accused by India of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks, has been assassinated. No official confirmation or denial from the government or his organization yet.”
But another Pakistan-based journalist Naimat Khan denied the claims of the killing of Saeed. “A leader of his group confirmed that Hafiz Saeed is safe and the reports of an attack on him are untrue,” Khan posted on X.

Adil Raja, an independent journalist, said on X that Saeed’s associate Nadeem has been killed. “There are confirmed reports of the murder of Nadeem, also known as Abu Qatal, who is the nephew of Hafiz Saeed. Additionally, there is an unconfirmed report regarding the murder of Hafiz Saeed, the leader of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, in Jhelum,” added Raja in a post on X.
It is noteworthy that Hafiz Saeed is officially incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore for financing terrorism, said Raja in his post, adding that the “bodies are currently being transported to Lahore”.
Incidentally, X’s Grok is also raising speculations over the suspected killing of Saeed on basis of posts by Raja and Muneeb. No Pakistani media has so far reported on the claims of the Jhelum incident and the speculated killing of Saeed. There are no denials either from Jama-ud-Dawa on claims while they are fuelling speculations for past five hours at least.
