Mary Kom Breaks Silence on Divorce: ‘He Stole My Money’

In a rare, explosive interview, six-time world champion Mary Kom accuses ex-husband of financial abuse, deceit, and betrayal after 20 years of marriage

New Delhi, January 10, 2026 — Boxing legend and six-time world champion M.C. Mary Kom has, for the first time, publicly revealed the reasons behind her divorce, accusing her former husband of cheating, lying, and systematically draining her finances during their 20-year marriage.

Appearing on India TV’s flagship show Aap Ki Adalat with Rajat Sharma, Mary Kom said she had remained silent for two years before deciding to speak out. “I didn’t ditch him. He cheated me, he ditched me,” she said, rejecting claims that she abandoned her family.

Dismissing narratives of her ex-husband’s “sacrifice,” Mary Kom said he had no stable career and lived off her earnings. “Later I found out my bank accounts were being emptied,” she revealed, adding that loans were taken in her name without her knowledge. “When I realised what was happening, I was shaking. I knew I couldn’t live with this person.”

Mary Kom disclosed that she trusted her husband completely and did not monitor her finances until she suffered a career-threatening injury. She alleged that he withdrew ₹10 lakh from her account on two occasions while falsely claiming it was a much smaller amount. “I caught him red-handed, twice,” she said.

The boxing icon also addressed political allegations made by her ex-husband regarding the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections. She said she was pressured to seek a BJP ticket for him, but leaders instead suggested she contest. “I have no interest in politics,” she asserted, adding that she nevertheless supported him financially to the tune of ₹5–6 crore.

“I am a fighter. I will fight. Truth will come out,” Mary Kom said, ending the interview on an emotional note.
