We’re in Touch with Meitei, Kuki Leaders: RSS

Bengaluru, March 21: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Friday said that it will be a long time before peace eventually returns to Manipur. The three-day-long RSS meeting in Bengaluru began on Friday.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat along with general secretary Dattatreya Hosbole inaugurated the three-day conclave in Bengaluru. Over thousand RSS functionaries drawn from across the country are taking part in the deliberations.

Mukunda CR, the joint general secretary of the RSS, on Friday said: “Manipur will take a long time for eventually see return of peace. The process is underway.”

Mukunda was speaking ahead of the inauguration of the RSS conclave. “We are in touch with the leaders of both the communities, the Meitei and Kuki,” said Mukunda.

The RSS functionary stated that the dialogue is underway between the stakeholders. “It has been 20 months since the outbreak of violence in Manipur. We hope for the return of the normalcy,” added the RSS functionary.

Bhagwat at the last Vijyadashmi speech at the RSS headquarters had expressed concerns at the unabated Manipur violence. The RSS chief had urged upon the Centre to stake steps to mitigate the Manipur violence.

In a belated action, President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur. N. Biren Singh after months of resisting pressure for his resignation had quit from the post of the Chief Minister.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla is currently overseeing laying off arms by rebels in Manipur. Yet, observers state that not all looted arms have been returned to the Manipur Police.

But the Kukis lifted the restrictions on the roads. This has eased the movement of the people within the state.

The Manipur violence had broken out after the High Court order for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the ambit of reservation for tribal. The Kukis inhabit the hills of Manipur. The Meitei inhabits mostly the Imphal valley.

Experts stated that Track II outreach to both the community members is also underway. Former security experts are taking part in the Track II, said sources.

Media reports have said more than 250 people had been killed in the Manipur violence. Thousands of the people have also bene displaced. Scores of the people still stay at camps.
