“I appeal to everyone to embrace the Durga Puja festivities and end the demonstrations,” Banerjee said. Her remarks came on a day when the rickshaw-pullers also held protests in Kolkata against the RG Kar rape-murder case.

The raging protests in Kolkata have put Banerjee in a spot. The Trinamool Congress MP Jawahar Sircar resigned from the party.
Sircar in his resignation letter questioned the handling of the rape-murder of the junior doctor. The political heat is rising against Banerjee also in the wake of the unabated protests against the rape-murder.
Questions were also raised over not preserving the semen sample taken from the vagina of the victim. The Supreme Court also asked that all images of the victim from the social media platforms be removed.
With the Bengali intelligentsia throwing their weight behind the protests, Banerjee is seen struggling in the damage control. She claimed that the reports of her making financial offers to the parents of the victims were “slanderous”.
