A MEMU passenger train rammed into a goods train near Bilaspur Junction, causing multiple coaches to derail.

New Delhi, November 4, 2025 — A tragic rail accident occurred near Bilaspur railway station on Tuesday afternoon when a MEMU passenger train collided with a stationary goods train between Bilaspur Junction and Gatora. The collision, which happened around 4 p.m. on the quadruple electrified line, led to several coaches derailing and caused multiple casualties.

According to preliminary reports, at least four people have been confirmed dead and several others injured. “Rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing by teams of the NDRF, GRP, and railway officials. Injured passengers have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment,” said a senior railway official.

Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agarwal told reporters that “four people have been killed, and rescue operations are underway to evacuate those trapped.”
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao termed the incident “very tragic” and assured that all possible assistance is being provided to the affected passengers and their families.

The Railway Ministry has announced ex-gratia compensation for the victims: ₹10 lakh for the kin of the deceased, ₹5 lakh for those seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for passengers with minor injuries.

Senior railway officials have reached the site to oversee rescue efforts and coordinate relief measures. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the collision to identify lapses and recommend corrective actions.
