New Delhi, December 13: In a major breach of security in the Lok Sabha, two persons jumped to the MPs’ gallery in the House on Wednesday. The MPs claimed that the intruders sprayed yellow gas in the House. The security personnel have detained the intruders.

In a coincidence, the security breach took place on the 22nd anniversary of the parliament attack. Members of parliament had earlier paid homage to the security personnel who had laid their lives while defending parliament against terror attack on December 13, 2001.

Lok Sabha MP Arvind Sawant told reporters that two persons jumped into the gallery of the members. “They were leaning from the rails. They then jumped off. Soon, yellow colour gas was seen. I can still sense as there is irritation because of the gas spray,” Savant told reporters. The Shiv Sena MP claimed that he still had burning sensation.

Trinamool Congress MPs also told reporters that “more than one person jumped into the House while raising slogans”. “They were running around and spraying some yellow gas,” said Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. She said that the intruders raised slogans.

The security personnel are learnt to be interrogating the detained intruders. It may be noted that Khalistani activists have been sporting yellow flags in previous protests seen in some parts of the country. However, the identity of the intruders is not yet known. The Winter session of Parliament is currently underway and both the Houses have passed amending bills for Jammu and Kashmir to raise the strength of the proposed Assembly in the Union Territory.

The security breach took place while the members in the Lok Sabha were taking part in the Zero Hour. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram told reporters that “it was a deliberate jump by the persons from the visitors’ gallery to the MPs’ chamber”. “They took out canisters and began spreading yellow gas. The smoke could have been poisonous. It’s a serious breach of security. They were overpowered. How they were able to bring canisters in the House,” asked Chidambaram.
