Lucknow, March 5: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday claimed that a boatman turned into a millionaire during the six-week-long Mahakumbh at Prayagraj. The man had bought a boat by selling jewellery at home, said the Chief Minister.
Adityanath, while sharing the success stories of Mahakumbh, gave accounts of Pintu Maharaj, a boatman. He got the idea of earning from the “divine and grand organization of Kumbh 2019 by the Yogi government”, said the state government in a media statement.
The state government quoted boatman’s mother, saying: “Now, I will be able to educate my children in a good school.” Adityanath shared the story of the boatman family during the budget session in the Assembly.
“The Prayagraj Mahakumbh has been a symbol of religious faith and spirituality and a significant source of livelihood and business for millions. The grand event transformed countless lives, from auto drivers and food vendors to boatmen,” said the state government in the media statement.
Among these success stories, Adityanath highlighted the journey of a boatman family from Prayagraj during the Assembly’s Budget session. “Many success stories emerged in the 45-day spiritual confluence, but the one that stood out was that of Pintu Mahara, a boatman from the Arail area of Prayagraj, who earned ₹30 crores in 45 days,” the UP government said in the statement.
Pintu’s life took a dramatic turn with one bold decision, added the state government. “Anticipating a massive influx of devotees, he expanded his fleet from 60 to 130 boats ahead of the Mahakumbh,” added the Chief Minister.
“His success is not an isolated case; the Mahakumbh brought prosperity to thousands of boatmen families, many of whom, after repaying their loans, are now leading comfortable lives as lakhpatis,” added the state government.
It stated that “Pintu Mahara recalled operating a boat during the magnificent Kumbh, organized by the Yogi government in 2019”. “Based on that experience, he anticipated an even larger influx of devotees for this year’s Mahakumbh. With this foresight, he expanded his family’s fleet by purchasing 70 additional boats, bringing the total to 130,” said the state government.
This strategic move proved highly rewarding, generating substantial earnings that secured his family’s future for generations. “For Pintu’s mother, Shuklavati Devi, the transformation is a blessing. Recalling the hardships after her husband’s demise, she said the Mahakumbh proved to be a saviour for the family,” added the state government in the media statement.
The Mahakumbh 2025 attracted an unprecedented crowd to the Triveni Sangam and turned fortunes around for many like Pintu Maharaj, said the state government.
