New Delhi, March 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is buzzing with speculations over next party president. The BJP will soon elect its next party president.
“The BJP top leaders have held preliminary consultations. The views of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) are awaited. A meeting of the top RSS brass with one very senior BJP leader is on the card,” a highly placed source in the BJP told The Raisina Hills.
The meeting of the top BJP leader with the RSS functionary will decide the next president of the party. Sources said that the meeting will discuss at least three names for the post of the BJP president.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand-pick the next president of the BJP. The next president of the BJP will be tasked to execute special tasks that will be given to him by the Prime Minister,” added the source.
The BJP has asked the state units to speed up the organizational elections. The mandatory norms will soon be achieved. “The formation of the new national executive will set the ball rolling for the election of the next BJP president,” added the source.
Current BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda has almost gone into a farewell mode. He is learnt to be holding ‘nostalgic meetings’ with general secretaries.
Sources said that Nadda is elated that he will be passing the baton to his successor on a high note. The BJP won three recently held Assembly elections – Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
“There are several names doing the rounds. But lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has suddenly emerged as a dark horse. He is a close confidante of both Modi and Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah,” said the highly placed source.
Singh, 65, had lost the Lok Sabha elections from Ghazipur in the 2019 general elections. Later, he moved to Jammu and Kashmir as Governor. He became a lieutenant governor after J&K was made a Union Territory (UT).
“After the Assembly elections in J&K, the special task that was assigned to Sinha is now over. His comeback in active politics is now anticipated,” said the source.
Former Odisha Governor Raghubar Das recently returned to the active Jharkhand politics. Tamilsai Soundararajn also had returned to active politics after quitting as Governor of Telangana.
In the BJP circles, Sinha’s missing out from becoming Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is now almost a folklore. He and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath find mentions in discussions in the BJP circles.
